Olivet’s Vision

Celebrating the power of the Holy Spirit by inviting all people to become fully devoted followers of Jesus.

2023-2025 Three-fold Mission

At Olivet, our mission is lived out through three interconnected areas of emphasis—congregational, community, and global. Together, these mission emphases reflect our commitment to living out God’s love in every sphere of life. The following is a breakdown of each mission emphasis and their goals:

Congregational Mission Emphasis

Create a safe space for growing, learning, listening and loving.
  • Foster an intentional culture of inclusion, support and advocacy for under-represented persons.
  • Address societal fragmentation by creating safe spaces for people of all ages to connect and reconnect with each other.
  • Encourage and provide opportunities for children and youth participation in worship.

Community Mission Emphasis

Address social issues by focused engagement in community partnerships.
  • Surround 15-20-year-olds in the Sylvania Community with practical and spiritual support to nurture wellbeing and provide safety.
  • Enhance our partnership with Urban Wholistics to foster meaningful youth engagement, racial equity and food security.
  • Address gun violence through advocacy in our communities, across Ohio, and at the federal level.

Global Mission Emphasis

Make direct connections for learning, mutual support and relief with people around the world.
  • Support existing ministries with more frequent direct communication with global partners, including the ELCA’s Good Gifts program.
  • Strengthen relationships with Lutheran Global Refuge (formerly Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service), Lutheran World Relief, and locally based refugee and asylum seeker efforts.
  • Promote learning, action, and advocacy related to global climate change.
