We invite you to join us and hear from seven team members — people of faith — who journeyed from Northwest Ohio to the southern borderlands to listen and learn about the current reality of immigration at the US-Mexico border. Calla Gilson Burns (NW-OH Synod), Pastor Chris Hanley (Glenwood Lutheran), Raiden Browning and Jordan Browning (Olivet Lutheran), Pastor Sarah Schaaf (NW-OH Synod), Pastor Shawn O’Brien (St. John Lutheran) and Megan O’Brien (Luther Home of Mercy) will be with us August 30th immediately following Olivet’s 10:00 AM worship service to share stories of what they saw and heard, what the visit taught them, and how it touched their lives and impacted their understanding of the immigration system as people of faith.
This team was hosted by Border Servant Corps, a social ministry of the ELCA. BSC provided opportunities for the team to visit a local Lutheran church that supports shelters near the border, and to meet several government personnel, humanitarian aid workers, lawyers and residents of Las Cruces, NM and El Paso, TX who offered personal experiences of life in the borderlands.
As followers of Christ, we are called to work for justice for all people. We are grateful that our guest speakers will be with us to share of their experiences of the borderlands through the lens of faith.
We will meet in the Christian Life Center, starting with lunch at 11:30 AM, and the presentation to follow ending at 1:30 PM. There is no charge, but please register by Tuesday August 25 so we can prepare for you.
