Welcome to Olivet Christian Nursery School!
Since 1967, Olivet Christian Nursery School has been providing a nurturing, fun-loving environment for little learners in the Sylvania area. Our half-day preschool programs serve children ages 3-5. We offer both parent cooperative and traditional (non-co-cop) options to fit the needs and goals of our families. We are a private, non-profit preschool licensed by the State of Ohio, and our curriculum exceeds the State of Ohio’s Early Learning Content Standards.
About Us
Children attending OCNS must be 3 on or before August 1 of the year they will begin preschool and be potty trained. As a parent cooperative preschool, OCNS offers the option to be directly involved in your child’s early education. Parents and caregivers supervise and participate in the activities their child engages in at school on a rotating basis with other parents in the class. To accommodate the changing needs of our families, a traditional (non-co-op) program is also available. In both programs, however, parents and teachers will work together to foster a life-long love of learning in a positive, creative environment.
We offer three half-day programs: Preschool 1, Preschool 2, and Lunch Bunch. Preschool 1 includes children who are three years old or have recently turned four. Preschool 2 includes children who are four or five years old and will begin kindergarten the following school year. Lunch Bunch is an optional program that allows students the opportunity to eat and play together outside of the classroom setting.
Although class size may vary slightly, each class will have no more than 18 students with one to two teachers (depending on enrollment) and will maintain an excellent ratio of 10 students:1 teacher. We believe that children learn best in a play-based environment, nurtured by experienced and caring teachers. Our staff is comprised of well-trained, loving teachers. We are committed to creating a loving and creative learning environment to develop the social, emotional, intellectual and physical growth of each individual child. The educational needs of the whole child are facilitated through a developmentally appropriate theme-based curriculum, which is designed to exceed the State of Ohio’s Early Learning Content Standards.

Preschool 1
Children three years old or have recently turned four.

Two days per week | Tuesdays + Thursdays
Preschool 2
Children four or five years old who will begin kindergarten the following school year.

Mondays, Wednesdays, + Fridays

Lunch Bunch
Lunch Bunch is an optional program allowing students the opportunity to eat and play together outside of the classroom setting. Sessions are offered Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 11:30 to 12:30. Separate registration form and fees apply.
Parent Cooperative Program
As a parent cooperative preschool, OCNS allows you the option to be directly involved in your child’s early education. Parents and caregivers supervise and participate in the activities their child engages in at school on a rotating basis with other parents in the class. On the days you are the parent helper, your child is also the “leader” in the classroom (ex: line-leader, calendar helper). You will be asked to assist our trained teachers with projects, bring in snack supplies, and help with the general supervision of the class. However, as the needs of our families have changed, OCNS also offers parents the choice of a traditional (non-co-op) program. In both programs, parents and teachers will work together to foster a life-long love of learning in a positive, creative environment.
Sample Daily Routine
9:00-9:15 – Arrival and Free Choice Play | Students will be greeted at the door by teacher(s), and enjoy playing in the classroom as the remainder of the class arrives
9:15-9:30 – Circle Time | Opening, calendar, weather, project instruction
9:30-10:30 – Free Choice Play, Project | Students are free to play what they would like in the classroom and will work on an academic based project that develops the theme of the day and fine motor skills.
10:30-11:00 Outside or Basement Play | Students will have the opportunity to develop their large motor skills while playing on the playground equipment, riding the bikes, playing in the sandbox and much more!
11:00-11:30 Bathroom, Second Circle & Snack | Students will use the restroom and wash hands before snack time, closing, and dismissal.
11:30-12:30 Lunch Bunch (optional) | See Lunch Bunch above for more about this optional program.
